Fraport has entered the tender for a concession covering 22 state-owned regional airports in Greece, partnering with Delta Airport Investments. The package, offered as a single concession of approximately 40 years, includes popular island destinations such as Paros, Naxos and Milos alongside small airfields serving remote communities, including Kasos and Kastellorizo.
The airports are owned by Greece’s state asset fund Growthfund, which identified three qualified investment groups after the first stage of the tender closed on 30 September. The other bidders are Athens International Airport and a consortium of GEK Terna and GMR Airports. The next stage will involve financial offers from candidates that meet the qualification requirements.
The 22 airports handled approximately 2.4 million to 2.5 million passengers in 2025, compared with about 37.1 million passengers across Fraport’s existing portfolio of 14 Greek regional airports. Sixteen of the additional airports are located on islands, and the package combines commercially attractive tourism markets with smaller facilities whose principal role is maintaining air links to remote areas.
If successful, Fraport would expand its Greek network from 14 to 36 airports. The winning concessionaire would receive rights to operate, develop and commercially exploit all 22 facilities. No award or signed concession agreement has yet been confirmed.
