Malta-based Melita Airways has launched as a new air cargo and charter carrier operating a Beechcraft King Air B200 from Malta International Airport. The start-up is owned by Melita Marine Group and is intended to support cargo, charter and air ambulance missions in the Mediterranean, including delivery of Rolls-Royce and MTU spare parts.
The carrier was established by maritime entrepreneur Pierre Balzan, who has described the aircraft as part of an expansion into air logistics. Melita Airways has recruited crew for the twin-turboprop aircraft, which is expected to support a range of specialised missions from its Maltese base.
The company’s operational status and regulatory approvals remain unclear. Earlier reporting indicated that Melita Airways did not yet hold an air operator’s certificate from Transport Malta and that no application had been submitted at that stage. The company has not publicly confirmed its current certification status, aircraft registration, launch schedule or planned destinations.
