Wind pushes Jet2 Boeing 737-800 briefly onto grass at Birmingham

A Jet2 Boeing 737-800 briefly left the paved runway while landing at Birmingham Airport on Sunday before returning safely to the surface. Flight LS1310, operated by aircraft G-JZHE from Venice Marco Polo Airport, touched down on Runway 33 at about 14:19 local time and moved left in strong, gusty winds associated with Storm Boelo. No injuries were reported.

The aircraft’s left main landing gear crossed onto the grass shortly after touchdown. The pilots regained directional control, brought the aircraft back onto the runway and taxied to the stand, where passengers disembarked normally.

Jet2 attributed the temporary runway excursion to exceptional weather conditions caused by Storm Boelo, which was affecting the British Isles. Media reports indicated gusts of about 29 knots around the time of the landing, although that figure has not been established as an official airport measurement.

Video footage shows the aircraft veering left before being straightened and returned to the paved surface. The available reporting does not establish whether the aircraft sustained damage, whether a technical issue contributed, or how the event will be classified by investigators. The footage alone cannot determine the precise cause.
