LOT Polish Airlines will suspend four European routes during the 2026/27 winter timetable, removing Warsaw–Bologna and Kraków–Madrid, Kraków–Barcelona and Kraków–Rome from the schedule by the end of October. The Polish carrier plans to restore the services when the summer timetable begins in April 2027, while also reducing frequencies on selected other routes.
The decision follows a review of network profitability covering Warsaw and Kraków services to Italy and Spain. Higher jet-fuel prices were a key factor, alongside strong competition in Central European markets that limits LOT’s ability to recover higher operating costs through fare increases without risking passenger demand.
Fuel accounted for about 25% of LOT’s total costs in February but could represent as much as 40% now, spokesman Krzysztof Moczulski told Poland’s PAP news agency. The carrier’s winter adjustments target routes that are less economical during the lower-demand season and reflect the pressure that fuel-cost increases are placing on short- and medium-haul European operations.
