Ryanair has substantially reduced its operation at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) as the 2026/27 winter timetable begins, removing 12 routes and closing its seven-aircraft base. The cuts took effect on Sunday, 25 October, after the airline withdrew the associated aircraft and crews on the previous day. Ryanair will continue serving Berlin with an operation roughly half the size of its previous schedule.[1][2]
Six destinations have lost direct BER service: Palermo, Marseille, Trieste, Reggio Calabria, Tallinn and Pisa. Six other routes remain available through competing airlines. easyJet, Eurowings and Sundair serve Gran Canaria; easyJet and Eurowings serve Fuerteventura and Lanzarote; Eurowings operates to Bologna; easyJet and Aegean serve Thessaloniki; and Wizz Air serves Vilnius.
Ryanair’s revised winter network includes new services to Saarbrücken and Friedrichshafen. The withdrawal reflects the pressure facing German airports from aviation taxes, security charges and other operating costs, while competitors are adding capacity. Eurowings is stationing two additional aircraft at BER, taking its local fleet to 11, with new or expanded services including Rome, Bologna, Dubai, Jeddah and Baghdad. Wizz Air is expanding to destinations including Vilnius, Sarajevo, Milan-Malpensa, Pristina and Suceava.[3]
Despite the Ryanair reduction, BER’s winter schedule includes around 140 destinations in 50 countries served by approximately 70 airlines—eight more destinations than in the previous winter, according to Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg.[4]
