Panasonic Avionics has sold 500,000 Astrova 4K OLED screens, as the in-flight engagement solution reaches more than 45 airline customers across over 150 aircraft installation programmes. The milestone was announced in Osaka, Japan, alongside the completed expansion of the company’s Osaka-Kadoma factory, which has increased Astrova production capacity sixfold.
The total includes screens already in airline service and units undergoing seat integration or installation before delivery. Astrova, launched in 2022, combines 4K OLED displays with in-flight entertainment, passenger-device integration, Bluetooth audio and charging capabilities.
The expanded factory now covers more than 10,000 square metres, roughly twice its previous footprint. Production space has increased by approximately 1.8 times, while board-mounting equipment capacity has doubled. The facility also retains additional room for future expansion as demand develops across new linefit and retrofit programmes.
Panasonic Avionics chief executive Ken Sain attended the opening event with manufacturing partners and local authorities. The company has not disclosed the airlines, aircraft types or programme volumes contributing to the 500,000-screen figure, which represents units sold rather than aircraft already delivered or fully operational.
