Saab Rolls Out Sweden’s First S 106 GlobalEye Amid Accelerated Timeline

Saab has presented Sweden’s first S 106 GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft at its Linköping facility, beginning the test and verification phase ahead of its first flight and delivery. Ordered by Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration for the Swedish Air Force, the aircraft is part of a three-aircraft fleet planned for delivery in 2027 as Sweden’s first GlobalEye operator within NATO.

The S 106 is based on the Bombardier Global 6000 and integrates Saab’s GlobalEye mission system with active and passive sensors for detecting and tracking activity in the air, at sea and over land. The capability is intended to provide airborne surveillance, command support and situational awareness across multiple operating domains.

FMV contracted the first two aircraft in 2022, with options for additional aircraft, and ordered a third in 2024. The rollout is a production milestone rather than an operational handover. Saab has not specified when the aircraft will make its first flight, while the Swedish Armed Forces have identified 2027 as the planned delivery year. Ground testing, flight testing and verification will precede transfer to the Swedish Armed Forces.
