Munich Airport reports no restrictions on kerosene supply

Munich Airport’s kerosene supply is operating normally, with no delivery restrictions or expected shortage affecting Lufthansa flights at the Bavarian hub. The airport in Erdinger Moos remains separate from the supply pressure at Frankfurt, where reduced pipeline capacity and low Rhine water levels have prompted Lufthansa to uplift additional fuel on selected services bound for its largest hub.

Around half of Munich’s kerosene demand is supplied through a direct connection from OMV’s Burghausen refinery. The approximately 125-kilometre pipeline runs via the Feldkirchen tank farm to the airport, while additional volumes arrive by rail in tank cars.

Munich Airport can store about 45,000 cubic metres of kerosene in on-site tanks. Aircraft are supplied through an underground refuelling system that transfers fuel to aircraft stands.

At Frankfurt, Lufthansa has instructed crews on selected routes to take on additional fuel before departure to conserve stocks at the hub. The measures cover short- and medium-haul services and, increasingly, some long-haul flights. Lufthansa does not currently expect cancellations, while the duration of the Frankfurt supply constraints remains unclear.
