EVIA AERO has signed a memorandum of understanding with US aircraft developer Tidal Flight to become an intended early launch customer for the hybrid-electric Tidal Polaris Amphibian. The Bremen-based company plans to introduce up to 20 aircraft in Europe, comprising 10 firm positions and 10 options, while studying routes linking cities, islands and waterfront destinations, including a potential Lake Zurich–Monaco connection.
The Polaris is designed to operate from water and conventional runways. Its batteries and electric propulsion system are paired with onboard generators, allowing shorter sectors to be flown fully electrically and extending range on longer routes through hybrid-electric operation. Tidal Flight is configuring the aircraft for single-pilot operation and up to 13 passengers.
The proposed Lake Zurich–Monaco link remains an operational concept rather than an announced scheduled service. EVIA AERO and Tidal Flight are assessing European city and island routes, with final choices dependent on certification, infrastructure and demand. The partnership is also subject to a definitive purchase agreement, while entry into service requires validation by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
By operating from lakes, ports and other waterfront locations as well as airports, the amphibious aircraft could broaden EVIA AERO’s planned regional network beyond conventional runways. The Polaris remains in development, and the memorandum does not constitute a final aircraft purchase contract.
