Austrian Airlines to rotate wines from 34 Austrian wineries

Austrian Airlines will serve wines from 34 Austrian wineries in a new onboard programme running from October 2026 through August 2027. Presented at Vienna Airport, the programme replaces a single annual selection with four collections changing by season, broadening the range of Austrian wines available to passengers during the airline’s onboard service.

More than 600 submitted wines were evaluated and tasted before the selection was finalised. The autumn, winter, spring and summer collections will feature established varieties including Grüner Veltliner, Muskateller and Blaufränkisch, alongside less widely known grapes such as Rotgipfler, Zierfandler and Neuburger.

The programme was introduced at the Austrian Airlines Wine Event 2026, where participating winemakers presented their products to journalists, commercial partners and airline employees. Around 300 specially trained flight attendants, designated Austrian Airlines Wine Experts, also tasted the selected wines and met the producers.

The seasonal approach is intended to give passengers a broader view of Austria’s regional and stylistic wine diversity while promoting the country’s wineries through international passenger service. Austrian Airlines chief executive Annette Mann described the cooperation as an opportunity for the 34 wineries to present their wines to passengers at altitude.
