Irish aircraft lessor Avolon has ordered 70 Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines to power 35 Airbus A330-900 aircraft. The engine agreement follows Avolon’s firm order for the widebodies from Airbus, forming part of a larger commitment for 110 aircraft that also includes 75 A320neo-family jets. The transaction expands Avolon’s A330neo portfolio and strengthens its relationship with Rolls-Royce.
Avolon’s total A330-900 order book now stands at 114 aircraft. The lessor has not identified the eventual airline customers, delivery schedule or allocation of individual aircraft. The Airbus order was reported as subject to approval by shareholders of Bohai Leasing, Avolon’s majority shareholder.
The Trent 7000 is the exclusive engine for the A330neo. Rolls-Royce identifies the aircraft and engine combination as delivering approximately 14% lower fuel consumption per seat than the previous-generation aircraft, alongside reduced emissions. The engine is certified for operation with blends containing up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel and has been tested for future compatibility with 100% SAF.
The additional widebody aircraft will give Avolon more capacity to place with airline customers as they renew or expand fleets. No engine price or delivery timetable was disclosed.
