International flight tickets departing from Germany increased by 8.5% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to official data from the German Federal Statistical Office. Flights to European destinations saw the steepest rise at 11.5%, while Asia and Australia routes climbed 4.9%. The surge stems from kerosene prices doubling earlier in 2026 due to the Iran conflict and Strait of Hormuz blockade, pushing fuel costs above $2,160 per barrel at peak. Although fuel prices have declined, they remain well above 2025 levels. Seat capacity for German flights reached only 87% of 2019 levels, lagging behind other European countries at 113%, indicating structural constraints in the German aviation market that amplify pricing pressure.
