Emirates airline profit falls 66% as Iran war disrupts operations

Emirates airline’s after-tax profit fell 66% year on year to AED3.3 billion (US$903 million) in the first half of its 2026-27 financial year, as regional disruption linked to the Iran war and higher fuel costs weighed on results. Revenue declined 13% to AED56.9 billion in the six months to 30 September. The Dubai-based carrier also recorded a sharp fall in passenger numbers and load factor.

Emirates carried 21.8 million passengers, down 22% from a year earlier. Its average passenger seat factor fell to 72%, compared with 79.5%, while available seat kilometres decreased 17%. Intermittent airspace restrictions and closures, together with government travel advisories, affected operations and travel flows across the region. By the end of September, the airline was operating 91% of its pre-disruption network.

The airline’s results were distinct from those of parent Emirates Group, which reported AED3.6 billion in after-tax profit and AED66.2 billion in revenue for the same period. Emirates’ revenue included contributions from cargo and continued demand across its markets, but the passenger and capacity figures show that the impact extended beyond higher fuel expenses.
