Safran Electronics & Defense and UK-based MSI-Defence Systems have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and promote counter-drone systems combining Safran’s optronic sights with MSI’s SEAHAWK naval and TERRAHAWK land gun systems. The Franco-British collaboration targets NATO armed forces and international customers. It has already secured an initial contract from a European NATO navy for VIGEO sights on MSI’s 30 mm SEAHAWK DS30M mounts aboard mine countermeasure vessels, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
Mounted directly on a gun, VIGEO provides day-and-night target acquisition, laser ranging and fire-control functions. The companies have not identified the navy or disclosed the contract value, number of mounts, vessels involved or detailed delivery schedule.
The agreement covers both naval and land applications, combining MSI’s weapon systems with Safran’s sighting and targeting equipment for counter-drone missions. Safran’s wider portfolio includes PASEO and VIGY 4 sights, as well as its Skyjacker counter-drone system. The memorandum also gives MSI’s customers a potential route to Safran’s broader range of optronic equipment.
