Air Serbia flight to Moscow returns to Belgrade for security checks

Air Serbia flight JU134 returned to Belgrade on the evening of 3 November after airport authorities required additional security checks involving one passenger. The Airbus A320 was over Lithuania on its scheduled journey from Belgrade to Moscow when it turned back and landed at Nikola Tesla Airport. After passengers and baggage were screened again, the aircraft resumed its flight to the Russian capital, according to Serbian media reports.

Air Serbia explained that it had received information from the competent authorities requiring further checks and returned the aircraft in accordance with their instructions and applicable procedures. The airline did not identify the passenger. Serbian media named politician Aleksandar Vulin, who confirmed he was on board, but reports that he had boarded without completing required screening have not been confirmed by the airline. Vulin disputed accounts of the circumstances and alleged political motives.

The return brought the scheduled international service back to its departure airport to complete the requested checks. Reports differ on the events that prompted the instruction; the confirmed explanation from Air Serbia is that additional screening was required for one passenger.
