ITA Airways is considering flights between Milan Malpensa and Lima alongside its planned Rome Fiumicino–Lima service. The proposal, which has no confirmed launch date or final timetable, would use an Airbus A350 to serve both Italian cities through Lima. Chief executive Jörg Eberhart cited demand from businesses and communities in Lombardy. The plan would also bring ITA back to Malpensa, which it left out of its current network plans.
The proposed rotation would run Rome–Lima, Lima–Malpensa, Malpensa–Lima and Lima–Rome, allowing the airline to use the same aircraft without opening a base at Malpensa. The current concept envisages three weekly Rome–Lima flights and two or three weekly services between Lima and Milan. ITA is still developing the plan, with discussions expected with local and regional institutions and businesses.
The proposal comes as Emirates seeks Italian approval to operate a daily Malpensa–Lima service under fifth-freedom rights. Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, will decide on that request. Reported estimates put annual connecting-passenger flows at about 189,000 between Milan and Lima and 62,000 between Rome and Lima; these figures are market estimates, not traffic on existing nonstop routes.
