Atlantic Airways orders two additional Airbus A320neos

Atlantic Airways has placed a firm order with Airbus for two additional A320neo aircraft, taking the Faroe Islands’ national airline closer to its goal of an all-A320neo fleet. The deal will support fleet renewal, operational commonality and simplified maintenance across the carrier’s regional network, although Airbus and Atlantic Airways have not disclosed delivery dates.

Atlantic Airways currently operates four A320 Family aircraft: two A320ceos and two A320neos. The new aircraft will gradually replace the older-generation jets and increase the share of latest-generation narrowbodies in the fleet. The airline’s planned fleet will therefore comprise four A320neos once the order is completed.

Board chairman Niels Mortensen described the purchase as an important step towards the airline’s fleet-modernisation strategy. Airbus executive vice-president for commercial aircraft sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry welcomed the expanded relationship and linked the aircraft to Atlantic Airways’ role in maintaining regional connectivity for the Faroese communities.

No details were provided on cabin configuration, engines, financing, pricing or intended routes. Airbus said the A320 Family has accumulated more than 20,400 orders worldwide.
