Luxair has deployed an Embraer E195-E2 on its Luxembourg–London City Airport route for the first time, adding capacity on a key link between the two financial centres. The aircraft made its initial visit on 12 October and will operate selected services rather than every flight. With about 136 seats, it is currently the largest aircraft serving London City Airport.
The route operates up to 31 weekly rotations and has connected Luxembourg with London City for more than 20 years. The E195-E2’s deployment is intended to support business travel as well as visiting-friends-and-relatives and leisure demand, while advancing Luxair’s fleet-renewal programme.
London City Airport chief executive Andy Cliffe welcomed the additional capacity and highlighted the aircraft’s quieter cabin and two-by-two seating, which eliminates middle seats. The airport estimates that the E195-E2’s take-off noise footprint is around 60% smaller than that of existing jets such as the Embraer E190.
Luxair now operates four E195-E2s and is progressively introducing Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The airline’s broader fleet renewal is designed to replace older aircraft while increasing capacity across its network. London City Airport is also awaiting approval for an airspace-modification procedure that could facilitate operations by additional higher-capacity aircraft.
