EASA reinstates Gulf airspace ban until 29 July amid US-Iran hostilities

EASA reinstated and tightened its Conflict Zone Information Bulletin on 14 July 2026, prohibiting EU-regulated operators from flying at any altitude in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE airspace and the Gulf of Oman west of 58°E until 29 July. The ban, triggered by renewed US-Iran missile and drone activity following Iran’s retaliatory strikes on US infrastructure in the Gulf, forces carriers to reroute Europe-Gulf traffic south via Egypt-Saudi-Oman or north through the Caucasus, increasing flight times and fuel burn. Major operators including KLM and British Airways have suspended Dubai, Doha and Riyadh services through late August and October respectively. Crude oil prices rose nearly 3%, tightening Europe’s jet fuel market to under 30 days’ supply and sharpening expectations of an airline shakeout as Lufthansa and Ryanair shares fell 1.1%–4.1%.
