Searidge Technologies’ digital ramp-control system is operational at Hollywood Burbank Airport, providing controllers with real-time views of ramp and gate areas from a dedicated control room. Delivered with prime contractor Rosendin Electric for the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority, the system went live when the airport’s new terminal opened on 13 October. It combines camera feeds with ADS-B ground-surveillance data at controller workstations and a shared video wall.
The installation uses high-definition fixed and pan-tilt-zoom cameras to give ramp controllers a panoramic view of activity. Redundant workstations are located in a Virtual Ramp Control Room, with a shared display for coordinating operations. The system’s separate ADS-B feed provides additional aircraft-movement information alongside the camera views.
Burbank’s new terminal is a common-use facility. Airport operations director Keenan Cummings said the added visibility is intended to help staff respond more quickly and efficiently. Searidge’s system uses an open architecture that can accommodate further applications and data as traffic grows. No quantified performance results or traffic figures were provided.
The $1.3 billion, 355,000-square-foot terminal replaces the airport’s original 1930s-era facility. It has 14 gates, a centralized ticket lobby and security checkpoint, expanded concessions, a new baggage-screening system and a larger parking garage with electric-vehicle charging.
