Finnair has selected SES to equip 18 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft with multi-orbit in-flight connectivity, combining SES geostationary satellite services with low-Earth-orbit capacity from Eutelsat’s OneWeb network. Each aircraft will receive an electronically steered array antenna installed during production at Embraer. The first connected E195-E2 is expected to enter service in 2027; Finnair has not specified which routes the aircraft will operate.
The system is intended to support passenger messaging, streaming, online work and access to digital services. The agreement extends connectivity to Finnair’s 18 new E195-E2s, with factory installation avoiding the need for post-delivery retrofits.
SES will provide the multi-orbit service, while Eutelsat supplies the OneWeb LEO capacity. The companies have not disclosed service pricing or the terms under which passengers will be able to access connectivity. The 2027 entry-into-service timing is an expectation, not a confirmed date.
